Borvemor Blackhouse, or "Tigh Dubh" as it is called in Gaelic was built in the year 1993, and is the first traditional "Blackhouse" to be built for over a century. Using the age-old materials of stone, wood and thatch, the classic shape of the dry-stone island house took shape in just 32 days and was completed within three months. There are a few concessions to modern day requirements, and Borvemor Blackhouse does have running water, electricity and excellent plumbing! The walls are lined with pine throughout.

5 star quality self catering.

The living room with open plan kitchen is spacious and full of character. Soft Harris Tweed and the gentle woodlined interior echo the island colours. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a electric oven, ceramic hob, microwave oven, combined fridge-freezer and dishwasher. Our, locally crafted, traditional dresser is a replica creating the atmosphere of days gone by.

The bathroom which includes an electric shower and wall heater has plenty of hot water and like the rest of the house is woodlined in gentle tones. A washing machine and drier are accessible from the hall.

Our guests are always commenting on how peaceful and relaxing their stay was in the blackhouse. Situated in a wonderful spot on the West Coast of South Harris, with one of our many excellent beaches only a short walk away, we doubt you will find a more suitable place to enjoy your Hebridean holiday. Shown below is a selection of recent comments.
